The Industrial Revolution, which took place from the 18th to 19th centuries, was a period during which predominantly agrarian, rural societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, which began in Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people’s homes, using hand tools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special-purpose machinery, factories and mass production. The iron and textile industries, along with the development of the steam engine, played central roles in the Industrial Revolution, which also saw improved systems of transportation, communication and banking. Hippie Movement

In the 60's, hippies sought to free themselves from societal restrictions, choose their own way and find new meaning in life. This made hippies instantly recognizable to one another and served as a visual symbol of their respect for individual rights and their willingness to question authority. Hippies often chose brightly colored clothing and and the styles for the most part were loose and non-constricting. Styles such as bell-bottom pants, vests, tie-dyed garments, dashikis, peasant blouses, and long, full skirts with nature-inspired patchwork or non-Western clothing with Native American, African and Latin American prints.
